The term arthritis literally means the inflammation of a joint, but it is generally used to describe any condition in which there is damage to the cartilage. Inflammation is the body’s natural response to injury. The warning signs that inflammation presents include redness, swelling, heat and, pain. Symptoms which are commonly associated with arthritis include pain, stiffness, and a decreased range of motion. Many people do not know that there are various types of arthritis.
